barath has a wedge question (I've slightly modified it) for John McCain: "As president, would you follow the policies of George W. Bush or the policies of Bill Clinton?"
A number of folks have wondered if we are falling into a trap with the "No Comment Watch", just like McCain did when he urged Barack Obama to go to Iraq. In my view, the answer is no. Sure, within a few days -- at most two weeks -- Sarah Palin will do an interview, and she'll probably do fine. But even if she does do well, the key point is that right now John McCain's campaign doesn't have enough confidence in her to let her do an interview. Sure, after two weeks of prep work with the best media coaches in the Republican Party, she'll be fine. But if it takes her two weeks to get ready just for a single interview, how in the world will she be able to get ready to be president if, God forbid, something should happen to McCain? Perhaps she'd by adequate, but how in the world could McCain know? And why would he take such a risk?
I'm going to keep on repeating this until I'm blue in the face: Sarah Palin did not sell the state plane on eBay. Instead, she sold it to an Alaska businessman named Larry Reynolds who had made political contributions to the Speaker of the Alaska's House of Reps. The state had purchased the plane in November 2005 for $2.7 million and sold it to Reynolds less than two years later at a $600,000 loss.
