Mildly Deranged Conservative Calls Out Totally Deranged Conservatives
On Countdown, Arianna Huffington pointed out that this passage from David Horowitz's article urging fellow conservatives to get over Obama Derangement Syndrome is itself deranged:
The birth-certificate zealots are essentially arguing that 64 million voters should be disenfranchised because of a contested technicality as to whether Obama was born on U.S. soil. (McCain narrowly escaped the problem by being born in the Panama Canal zone, which is no longer American.)
What difference does it make to the future of this country whether Obama was born on U.S. soil? Advocates of this destructive campaign will argue that the constitutional principle regarding the qualifications for president trumps all others. But how viable will our Constitution be if five Supreme Court justices should decide to void 64 million ballots?
It tells you something about the wingnutty right that the guy telling the worst of the nuts to pipe down thinks "whether Obama was born on U.S. soil" is an open question.
There is no question that he was born in the U.S., but if there were, the reason it would be relevant is that it's in the Constitution. Apparently Horowitz has no respect for that, either.
One final note: Obama didn't receive 64 million votes -- he won 69 million. But what's 5 million votes when you're a member of the deranaged American right?
